Best Massage Chairs for Tall People

I recently had a call from a pretty tall guy (6'6" to be exact) asking me about what I would recommend for someone his height.  He wanted to know..what are the best massage chairs for tall people?!  It's a pretty common question especially when you're in research mode and a little overwhelmed with all the possibilities that massage chairs have to offer.

What is your budget?

Depending on your budget, we have several different good options available to meet your needs. 

If you're on a budget, but still looking for a chair that has everything, my favorite chair that fits the bill is the Titan Pro Jupiter XL.  This one is a 3D L-Track massage chair with foot rollers and one of the longest L-Tracks in the industry at 53" long.  The chair was specifically designed with the Big & Tall person in mind.  I've had customers in the past year that have experienced significant improvement in their sleep patterns and overall body health from this chair.  The Osaki TW-Chiro is a nice option if you really want to stay below $3000 with a 3D S-track and a bigger, wider frame.

In the mid-tier, I really like the two Infinity IT-8500 chairs. The Infinity IT-8500X3 has a slight edge over the normal IT-8500 due to the deep tissue 3D rollers.  You are able to enjoy one of the best stretches in the industry with these two.

For the Premium Tier where price isn't an issue, I really like the Luraco iRobotics i7 due to its roomier design through the seat and shoulders, plus an overall superior 3D robotics arm.  The only real downside to the i7 is that it is an S-Track chair which means that you won't get a glute massage.  The Human Touch Novo XT2 is also a fabulous option, but does run a little narrower through the seat and shoulders.  The Novo XT2 is a 3D L-Track chair which provides a strong deep tissue massage through the entire back and glute region.  Both chairs have recently been upgraded to include many new features.  

Body Type

Are you leggier or do you have a longer torso?  If you've got much longer legs, then you will really want/need to manually recline further back once the chair settles into zero gravity and then extend the legs out as far as they will go.  I have found that taller people really appreciate a good stretch function.  The Infinity IT-8500 series (and the Infinity IT-8500X3) both offer superior stretch functions and are known in the industry for this feature.

If you're also a little heavier (over 250#), you may want to consider chairs from our Big & Tall section.  Even here, not all chairs are created equally.  These chairs are typically designed with a stronger frame and motor which can withstand the higher torque associated with a heavier load and frame on a regular basis.  That being said, you will also want to think about the seat width.  It's not a measurement that is typically given by massage chair manufacturers and requires a little detective work on my part. ;)  The most generous seat width available today is 23" on the Luraco iRobotics i7 massage chair (being replaced by the i7 PLUS on September 1st with several new enticing upgrades).

Foot Size

One of the important things that I like to ask my customers is how big their feet are.  :) It sounds like an odd thing to consider, but taller people oftentimes have much bigger feet.  People with above a size 12 shoe may have difficulty getting their feet into the closed toe-box of a massage chair's foot rollers.  Most of the closed-foot chairs will fit up to a size 12 comfortably.  I once had a former pro basketball player sit into our Ekon -- he loved the chair, but just couldn't straighten out his toes inside the closed footwell.  I would recommend the chairs with open footwells for those with bigger feet.

S-Track vs L-Track

As we discussed in last week's post, it's important to think about if you would prefer an S-Track or an L-Track massage experience.  With an S-Track roller, the rollers will follow the curvature of your spine from the base of the neck down to the end of the coccyx. These chairs typically have rollers which range from 28-32" long.  In an L-Track massage chair, the rollers still follow the curvature of the spine, but then wrap around the glutes in an L-shape massaging from the neck down through the glutes and even into the upper hamstrings.  Most L-track chairs have rollers which range from 46" - 58" long.  The longest in the industry is the Luraco L-Track Legend 3D massage chair at 58" long.  I will say that this one will massage into the hamstrings--actually halfway down mine and I'm 5'4.5" tall!  The next chair that even comes close is the Titan Pro Jupiter which we mentioned above.
